Welcome to Saravji’s hut.
Who is Saravji?
What is Saravji’s hut?
Saravji is a character in Gisbert Haefs’ series of “Dante Barakuda” science fiction books. As far as I can tell, these books are not available in any language but German.
The books are set in a future in which human society co-exists with other races in a multi-planetary and mixed empire. The story setting is on a relatively irrelevant planet at the edges. The locals have chosen to be excluded from the empire and confined to their planet. Therefore the empire minimizes its presence, visibility and influence to the minimum required to ensure the isolation of the locals. Throughout the book, it becomes clear that the locals centuries ago had a highly developed society including space-faring, but chose to reverse to a far less advanced style of life. Enormous effort had been taken to erase most of the advanced technology from the planet. Some keepers have enough knowledge about the past and guard the secrets.
Saravji is a side character of significance in these books: He is one of the oldest living of these keepers, has declined a role among the rulers and has travelled the planet for his entire life, collected wisdom. It is said that where Saravji shows up, something decisive for history will happen. Saravji moves about both the continents on the planet. Usually he sets up a basic hut he uses for shelter. Once the event happened, and it is time for him to move on, he sets fire to his hut and leaves. Saravji is not a reason for the events, he is a mere observer and guide for people effected by the event.
In short: Saravji is a predictor for significant change and an adviser. And Saravji’s hut is where these events happen.
I think this is fitting for me, so welcome to Saravji’s hut.
